Clean Wood Free to Residents
When planning for your next weekend project, whether it be building a pet shelter or stockpiling firewood, please consider perusing the Gunnison County Landfill’s selection of clean wood, which is routinely available at no cost to any citizen willing to pick it up. Most of the wood supply is comprised of pine trees and boards measuring 1” x 12” and 2” x 4”. Cottonwood is also available, but with less frequency. “Pine trees, if given the opportunity to dry out, make excellent firewood,” explains Assistant County Manager Marlene Crosby. Persons picking up wood must sign a Release of Liability form, which can be obtained from the gate-keeper’s office at the entrance to the Landfill.
The Landfill is located at 621 County Road 42 and is open from 8:00 am until 4:00 pm, Monday thru Friday, and from 8:00 am until 3:00 pm on Saturday.
Please call the Public Works Department at (970) 641-0044 or the Gunnison County Landfill at (970) 641-5522 with any questions about County recycling programs or Landfill operations.
