Food

TNCC supports local growers and encourages additional food production in the region. We believe that Farmers’ Markets and Community Supported Agriculture along with local food outlets are vital for healthy and strong communities. We also advocate for the development of more community gardens and greenhouses.

"A GEODESIC GREENHOUSE - YEAR ROUND GARDENING AT 6000 FEET" with Breigh Peterson and Kris Holstrom is now online!

In Colorado it's cold for much of the year, but inside this cozy dome greenhouse, the plants are growing happily. Take a grand tour with Buckhorn Gardens manager and permaculturist Breigh Peterson: the greenhouse structure with its interplay of light and water, warmth and air; curving raised beds of vegetables and flowers; fish tanks moderating the temperature; vertical trellises and shelves to use vertical space. Outdoors a huge garden of row crops and a young orchard are complemented by free-roaming chickens and ducks.

WHAT: Farmer's Market in Telluride! Greens, milk, goat cheese, eggs, citrus, apples, herbs, bread, and natural meats etc.

WHEN: Every Friday beginning June 12.
11:30 - 4p.m.

WHERE: Oak Street.

Check out Kris's Pick of the Week (3/8 - 14): "Heart & Soil" is a family documentary that clips along with the pace of barefoot children and frolicking livestock. The film takes us on a journey into the rich landscape and lives of farmers in the southwest and into the bustling energy of farmer's markets and farm to school programs. The farmers are an inspiration for all of us to dig in more, grow our own, or support those who do for our personal and planetary health.

The mission of "Heart & Soil" film is to inspire and gently inform millions of people to act on behalf of local agriculture. Through your advocacy, this family friendly film can have broad impact toward the imperative to grow and protect a safe, reliable and healthy food source. Please help see our collective future by sharing this nourishing wisdom and vibrant life-force of the farmers in the film.

Help reduce green house gas by eating or growing more local food. Please order DVDs for yourself and to give as gifts or sponsor a local screening in your area. Ask about our public screening fee.

What is a CSA?

Community Supported Agriculture is a partnership of mutual commitment between a farm and a community of supporters providing, (alas!), a direct link between the production and consumption of food.

This spring and summer, area gardens and farms, here in southwest Colorado will be full
of vegetables, herbs, fruits, and flowers.

Farmers select many rare varieties of plants due to their adaptability to the Colorado climate, their natural pest and disease resistance, and their uniqueness.

By joining a locals CSA, you become a shareholder of a farm and a member of a community. In exchange, each week, you will be given a basket full of your share of the harvest.
